Community Work and Activism


2019-Present Maloca Community Garden, Keele Campus, York University

Reactivation of website, membership and collaborations between the North York community gardens. During 2019 and 2020, I worked closely with other community gardens, community organizations and NGOs in the North York region to reactivate the network of organizations that supports them in fighting hunger and food insecurity.

2006-2010 National System of Protected Areas – Sinac, Costa Rica

Developed and applied two management plans for a privately-owned protected area for conservation and development of ecological services ("Dantas River" Reserve, 2004-2010) in close collaboration with the Cabecar Indigenous territories of Nairi-Awari and Taini; and for a National Biological Corridor ("Paso de las Nubes” Biological Corridor, 2009-2010.) There 11 communities of small to medium size farming towns connected three National Parks and several small protected areas. The primary objective was to coordinate efforts on pesticide use reduction, promote organic production, wildlife protection, combat poaching, and incorporate environmental education to the elementary school's curricula.

February 2005-2008 External Assessment, Swedish International Cooperation Project "Human Ecology and Conservation And Use Of Natural Resources," Bluefields - El Rama Miskito Region, Nicaragua

Coordinate a team of five collaborators to assess two (2) four-year projects supported by two Swedish churches: Svenska Missionsrådet and Svenska Missionskyrkan, and SAID (Swedish Agency for International Development), developed in Nicaraguan Miskito's South Atlantic coastal communities about the uses of natural resources, community botanical knowledge, and community conservation systems, and about the perceptions and strategies to deal with multicultural communities implementing development strategies and poverty fight, within Swedish Cooperation for Development and the Department of Ecumenical Researches – (DEI) )

2004-2006 Aqueduct and Watershed Of San Antonio And Lajas Community Committees, Escazu, Costa Rica

Advised and supported the work on watershed protection and management of the rural aqueducts of two communities through the work of community committees and neighbours associations.

2002-2004 Council for The Conservation And Development Of Escazu Hills (Codece) San Jose, Costa Rica

Developed and provided support to eco/rural tourism projects, watershed protection, reforestation and environmental education for the environmental Non-Governmental Organization (CODECE) promoting the conservation of the Escazu Hills protected area and the sustainable development of its surrounding communities.
